Arálie

Aralia (Latin: Aralia) is a genus of plants from the Araliaceae family, which includes approximately 68 species. These plants are mainly found in the temperate and subtropical regions of North America and Asia. The growth habits of Aralia species vary, with some herbaceous species growing only up to 50 cm, while some trees can reach heights of up to 20 meters. In our selection of cut flowers, Aralia can be found, for example, in the Harmony bouquet and other arrangements as a green addition to bouquets and floral decorations.

Characteristics

Leaves: Most species have compound leaves with long petioles. The leaves can be palmately or pinnately compound and often have serrated edges.

Flowers: The small inflorescences are usually white or green, arranged in panicles or umbels. The flowers are small but numerous.

Fruits: Small berries, often black or dark blue, appear after flowering.

Cultivation and Care

Aralias are relatively easy to grow and can be cultivated in gardens as solitary plants or as part of shrub groups.

Light: Most Aralias prefer partial shade to shade, but some species can tolerate full sun.

Temperature: They are frost-resistant, with most species tolerating temperatures down to -15 °C, although some species may be more sensitive to frost.

Humidity: They require moderate to higher soil moisture, but they do not tolerate waterlogging.

Watering: Regular watering is important, especially during dry periods. The soil should be kept moist but well-drained.

Substrate: They grow best in well-drained, humus-rich soil with plenty of organic matter.

Fertilization: During the growing season, it's advisable to fertilize with organic fertilizers or compost.

Significance

Aralias are often used in landscape architecture due to their decorative appearance. Some species also have medicinal properties and are used in traditional medicine, especially in Asian cultures.
