Peonies are known for their large, showy flowers and pleasant fragrance. They belong to the genus Paeonia and can be herbaceous (deciduous) or tree-like (evergreen). Popular species include Paeonia lactiflora, which blooms in a variety of colors such as white, pink, red, and purple. They are long-lived perennials commonly found in flower gardens.
Ecology:
Peonies originate from Southern Europe and Asia, and they are adapted to temperate and moist areas. They are very resilient and adaptable, which has made them one of the most popular garden perennials. Peonies attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, contributing to the ecological balance in gardens.
Interesting Facts:
Peonies are one of the oldest cultivated garden plants and were historically used for medicinal purposes, particularly against gout. They are deeply rooted in Czech garden traditions and have earned the admiration of many generations for their beauty and easy care.
