Syringia (Lilac)

Syringa (Lilac) is an ornamental shrub or tree with fragrant blooms, ideal for vases or floral arrangements. Available in our shop in Strašnice, Prague 10, from early May.

Characteristics:

Syringa, commonly known as lilac, is a genus of deciduous shrubs and small trees from the olive family. The most well-known species, Syringa vulgaris (common lilac), is widely cultivated in the Czech Republic. The leaves are simple and opposite, and the flowers are bisexual, arranged in lateral or terminal panicles. Each flower has four fused sepals forming a bell-shaped calyx with four lobes. Lilacs prefer lime to neutral, nutrient-rich, and well-drained soils for optimal growth.

Ecology:

Lilacs are native to southeastern Asia, with about 40 species known, including 16 found in China. This ornamental plant has spread worldwide and is commonly grown in temperate regions. Lilacs prefer sunny locations with rich soils and typically bloom in May for about 3 to 4 weeks.
